Roads and Paths of The Far Fens

The main travel routes throughout the fiefdom are dirt and in some areas approaching Greensforge and particularly the Greensforge / Harvesthall / Bushellton, dirt with a layer of compacted gravel. The gravel sections are maintained in order to provide effective year round transport of grain and produce to the docks at Bushellton. Taxes are raised in Harvesthall and Bushellton for this purpose in order to raise ‘Pebble Gangs’ who transport pebbles from the shoreline then compact them. Arcane aid is said to provide these workers with the strength required to do this laborbq). intensive job.
Security on the roads is the responsibility of the ‘Wayriders’. These are provided by the Lord’s grace and usually work in pairs, mounted and well equipped, their patrol routes cover all of the main roads, to a degree. The closer to Greensforge and Harvesthall the more common they become. In the outer Northern reaches of the fiefdom a stretch of road may only see one or two groups of Wayriders a week. Their jurisdiction is binding upon the highways and they have the power to arrest, detain and summarily judge wrong doings on the Lord’s highways.
As well as the marked main routes, there are hundreds of miles of lesser trails and tracks, used by farmers and locals for various reasons, not all of them innocent. Since the Lord levies a tax on imported goods (for the benefit of all) into Bushellton, smuggling remains a common problem, although not one to cause financial ruin to Lord Vassal’s coffers.
